Colour tactile indicator — black (bar and stud)

Black tactile indicators are the solution intended for light floor finishes. In accessible design yellow is often taken as the standard, yet the underlying requirement concerns not colour but luminance contrast against the background. On white marble, pale porcelain stoneware or light beige tiling a yellow indicator all but disappears — and on that kind of floor the black version becomes the correct choice.

The indicator comes in two forms. The bar forms a continuous guide or boundary that stays clearly visible against a light background, while the stud marks the warning field at the head of a staircase and in front of a ramp. The diamond relief is felt underfoot and through a cane tip; black also brings a practical benefit — dust and marks show less on it, so it keeps a tidy appearance longer in busy entrance areas.

• Bar element — high-contrast guide against a light background
• Stud element — warning field at stairs and ramps
• Diamond anti-slip relief — including on damp marble
• Suitable indoors and outdoors, adhesive or mechanical fixing

The black version is chosen for business centres, hotel and restaurant entrance areas, museums and exhibition halls, bank branches, and offices with contemporary interiors — that is, where the floor is light and design requirements are strict. Before choosing it is worth assessing the actual shade of the finish: if contrast is insufficient, the indicator will not do its job.
