Colour tactile indicator — red (bar and stud)

Red tactile indicators carry the meaning of danger and of an unconditional stop. The strength of red is that it reads the same way across cultures: a person slows down on seeing it even before making a conscious decision. For that reason it belongs not along a whole route but precisely at boundary points — where going further is hazardous.

The indicator comes in two forms. The bar forms a continuous boundary: a platform edge, the hazard zone of a production area, the lip of a loading bay. The stud marks a stopping zone — before a vehicle crossing, in a waiting area by an exit door. The diamond relief on the surface is clearly felt underfoot and through a cane tip, and it works against slipping on a wet finish. Red remains distinguishable against both dark concrete and light tiling.

• Bar element — continuous marking of a hazard zone boundary
• Stud element — forming stopping and waiting zones
• Diamond anti-slip relief — durable in industrial conditions
• Suitable indoors and outdoors, adhesive or mechanical fixing

The red version is chosen for railway and metro platforms, production shops, warehouses, car parks, sports venues and event spaces. One important nuance: the warning power of red is high, so it should not be overused — if a whole building is marked in red, the signal loses its meaning.
